Taking care of your skin is a time-consuming process. From the Korean skincare regime that has a dozen different steps to drinking extra water to help plump up your skin, there is no end to health advice for our faces.
Unfortunately, as time goes on it gets harder and harder to keep our faces looking young and wrinkle-free. If you’ve been thinking about a face lift, but perhaps don’t want anything quite that invasive, there are other steps you can take. PDO Threads can help give you a youthful look, without any kind of incision (and the scarring that goes along with it) or injections.
PDO threads are long threads placed under the skin using needles to draw them along. They gently pull the skin up, causing a younger look with just 2-3 days of down time. In rare cases, there may be bruising or bunching, but these side effects are happening less and less as technology advances.
There is a cost to this. PDO threads are not as dramatic as a traditional face lift, and it won’t last as long. This is by design. The suturing thread is dissolvable, to reduce the risk of infection. If the threads were made permanent, it could give bacteria a permanent place to hide within the body, leading to terrible infections. Dissolvable threads are much safer, and can still last a reasonable amount of time—about 6 months.
While you don’t get the longevity of a surgical facelift, you also don’t get many of the drawbacks associated with surgery either. The recovery time is much shorter, and they are much more cost-effective as well. A PDO thread treatment might run as low as $1,400, whereas a surgical facelift may cost as much as $10,000.
Good candidates for thread lifting are:
- Between the ages of 35 and 55
PDO threading is not a good option for advanced age. It will not make a big enough difference with very saggy or wrinkled skin.
- Only need a small lift
Because of it’s nature, this is a better option for those who only need a small lift or tightening done, rather than drastic measures.
- Understand the limits of thread lift
Threads can greatly improve your appearance, but they don’t have the same kind of reach as plastic surgery does.
- Need more support for their face from other treatments
Sometimes PDO threading is recommended to help give support to the skin after being tightened via other methods, such as surgery.
Thread lifts aren’t for everyone, but it can provide a non-surgical option for those who can no longer use fillers as an option, but still want to turn back the clock on their appearance, or those who just want to touch up their face.
If you think you may be a good candidate, reaching out to a local clinic might be a good option for you. A specialist can hear about your concerns and help you choose the right path forward.
